Connections: Filmklasse / CHINA

(kuratiert und präsentiert von Hanwen Zhang, BSprojects fellow)

In 1987, the first email sent from China was successfully received by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, titled “First Electronic Mail from China to Germany,” with the same content written in German and English: “Across the Great Wall we can reach every corner in the world,” which marked China’s entry into the global internet and summoned its further integration into an upcoming globalized economy. Named after this metaphorical statement, this program comprises four shorts by HBK Filmklasse alumni (Cai, Ng) and external practitioners (Tang, Wang) with Chinese associations. It aims to shed light on the notion of China and respond to the current geopolitical situation within the context of Germany. (HZ)
